Artist's Comments

Well this was a massive pain in the butt. I knew I'd have to get this printed, and wanted to- if at all possible- get it printed the size it would be if I had drawn it by hand. We've been working on 22" x 30" paper. So this was the largest I've ever drawn on the computer, ridiculously large. I don't think I ever actually zoomed in to work anything more than 50%. You can download it for a larger size, and thats still less than half the full resolution.

Anyway, I didn't get a good picture of our first self portrait assignment, but I knew if I didn't do something more challenging I would lose motivation and poop out. I kind of did that anyway, but thats just how I work. I went and got this printed out giant at Kinkos, and it cost me a pretty penny. Printed out real dark, I lost most of the fur and hair to the background, and when I got home I realized that I had left the layer with texturing off for the final save. HURRrr.

Only the few people in my art class who know me on deviantart will see this with all its colors right. Here you go Micah and Julia!

Was all on one layer, actually. Works hella better when you are trying to get more painterly with your stuff. Even with my more illustrative stuff, I've started coloring on top of my lines, same layer. Cause then you drag the black into the art when you blend, keeps your edges dark but leaves it with a line-less look. It took a while to get comfortable with

Wow, only one? Well I guess, now that i think about it, it makes sense....

Gorgeous work, I love it! Looks just like you too. If you want, I can print this out on 13x19" or luster paper on an excellent printer that I have access to. Perhaps a late birthday present from Gabe and I?

Nah, sweet offer, but I really only printing it to turn in to class, don't know what I'll do with it after. I don't usually print my stuff unless its gifts for parents or people who don't like looking at things on the computer. It is tempting though...would it still count as "regifting" if I used the print as a mothers day present? Dad got my landscape, feel the need to even things out.

lol, not if that's what you want to use it for! ;) I'll do it next time I'm in the lab doing nothing, and then I'll see about sending it. Just bought a ton of fine-art inkjet printer paper anyway. Will probably roll it in a tube, if that's all right. Maybe send it to you, you can sign it or frame it or whatever, then you'll send it to Maui?

awesome.. i love the colours- especially the purple around the nose and the grungie-looking greens around the eyes  eyes are capivating!

Yeah! That'd be awesome, thanks. Plenty of time before mothers day, no rush
